| David Bowie – This Is Not America Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| @[proteus:38140] This was one of my favorite movies from my youth - the song always touched me deeply - interpreting it from the standpoint of what it means to the film I see it as Christopher Boyce' (played by Timothy Hutton) dissillusionment of this country - Thru his government job he comes upon information of how the US is manipulating and taking advantage of weaker foriegn nations and governments- he sees it as the BIG LIE the HIGH LEVEL OF DECEPTION- to him this is not the America he believed in 'little piece of me will die" there was a time that he believed America was pure and good but with his discovery of this top secret info "I could have the faintest idea" it is not the America he grew up believing in (Hence, This is not America)...Bowie addresses later in the song how Boyce' disillusionment destroyed his life (most of it in prison for espionage) "Falcon spirals to the ground" "So bloody red tomorrow's clouds"... | |

Great song that has always stayed with me since I first heard NAD. I always thought it was about not looking outside of yourself for answers (Psychic, Zodiac....etc. etc.) but inside yourself and your desire - hence the lyrics: You're tellin' me it's in the trees, in the trees It's not, it's inside me now You're tellin' me it's on the ground, it's all around But it's not, it's inside me You're tellin' me it's mother earth, some sign of birth It's not, it's inside me, COME ON! The grey sells green = that which is grey in our life that we are unsure of others sell us on what it is what it means and make money off that. Grey cells is our grey matter (our minds, our intelligence, our brain power)- "Grey cell's green only if the green cell's grey" I think he's saying use your mind and desire cause that's what's real and natural (green) -grey cells green are unpolluted cells it's an unpolluted mind able to think for itself, unpolluted by those things outside of us telling us how to feel or be or what our meaning is because the answer is really inside of us. Pretty deep stuff for a group of 20 something year olds in the early 90's!! |

| Radiohead – Nice Dream Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| Song Meanings really are all about what they mean to you - I believe that all art is subjective and once the artist puts it out there it no longer belongs to just them - it's open to interpretation. I like what others felt about the song - The way we would like life to be is a 'Nice Dream' - what you thought was real (friendship, love etc.) was an illusion -"Now come home" = Wake up -lyrically great -fits so well with the music -only Radio Head can continuously repeat their lyrics in a song not because they can't think of what else to say (trouble with a lot of bands - look at 80's music lyrics) but because of purpose -we all sing along "Nice Dream" it's repetitveness is what is so poignant.... | |
