I saw the video where there are ballerinas dancing so perfectly but they are so pressured perhaps to maintain their performance. I wonder if the Sun is the Father and a pressure out upon her to fulfill his dreams of success and stardom. He never learned to take up his own life and dreams. It is asif he cant...whoever he is....acknowledge her and her supreme efforts and having learned the highest highs and lowest lows she regains a shred of individuality enough to see shes living in a shadow and hates and has been replaced by someone else who is fulfilling his dreams now. It could be that she responded to pressure and intuited the emotional needs for a daughter to succeed but the need was empty. Iit was not human fulfillment but being good enough. She has acted out and taken ownership for his shadows and is realising this. She wanted to give but does not exist to him like the hole of a doughnut.

I can hear something of a grandmother spirit offering out wisdom but equally if the grandmother is torn in her heart or psyche she may feel that what the person births is her belonging. Going back to her own memories she knows the pain of not living fully perhaps but there is difficulty in birthing her wisdom and long kept secrets in another and truly letting it free. I think for some people the song would mean one thing and for another with different life experience then the words shift to mean something else.

It's not a nice take on it but couldn't this be talking about a guy who can't stay in touch with his sexuality in his own thoughts because the first man who touched him shouldn't have? It just read that way to me as I read toris interview comments. Asif the guy wanted the love when he was young but the sugar, the not really love , was from someone older getting in to 'the bubblegum trade'. His sexuality got tarnished and now he cant go forward and he can't go back. The addiction is to sugar and only half knowing perhaps.

I think all the takes are valid but also I have heard tori talk about christ consciousness in interviews and she is clearly a spiritual person. It sounds to me like she understands the concept of twinning with another through being in touch in a conscious way- with her divinity. On one level her father or other religious leaders may have tried to steal this some way or other as they may have been jealous of the simplicity a child found in being 'perfect'. Closer to god than them. In soul twinning there is a reunion of the soul with its own self as it separated and incarnated in to 2 difficult family lines to help the family through the bondage of its line. The twins support one another through telepathy and sometimes by being in relationship but the love is of ' another kind'. It is uncontaminated by earthly problems but yet may recreate them to act them out and express a way through to support others. Twin flames are quite rare but tori and her genius and her incredible capacity to love and create do represent all the hall marks. A lot of her songs suggest this link with trent like suede. Having to disassociate with something deeply a part of her and then gradually rediscover it and allow it freedom. Just a thought.

I wonder if this is also an expression of her 'other self'. A kind of acknowedgement of what can happen when an affluent successful female has to be her own man . To get through in a mans world there is a toughening up so that you become heartless and 'cruel' sometimes. Her softer femininity is the trade off for the career and lifestyle. Resenting men not just for what they can be but also what she has seen in herself as a result.

Tori Amos – Spark Lyrics

It makes me think ... and I hear this in a lot of Toris songs, about her trying to give birth to a part of herself. Like how each of us can be filled with more than one perspective but we only admit to some of them or make friends with some of our inner voices. I hear a different inner voice when she repeats some of the lyrics here as she changes pitch. I hear the frozen and winter references in some of her songs too and it's like she feels she has betrayed herself by letting a part of her go to sleep. I think birthing a child or carrying to term can be a challenge to any woman if you have some part of yourself to give birth to...as if there are experiences that get less conscious attention in day to day life but keep knocking on your door to be remembered. I think my own miscarriage woke me up to parts of my life that needed me to look at them differently before I could be the mother I would want ... but I didnt see the disparity clearly until that wake up call. When she wakes up as the video shows in her escape I wonder if the people in the car are people who are still asleep, the perspective she was previously coming from. That could be about giving up on the faith she was born in culturally but still being surrounded by it...hard to get help. Shifting to looking for help inside rather than 'out there'.
