To me is obviously about a soldier surviving his Baptism in Fire, he's traumatized thanks to seeing the death of his brothers in arms ("Every night of my life I watch angels fall from the sky...) But he's still alive and has become a new man because of that, he has been reborn. |

I originally thought it was just a Break up song, until i actually listened to the lyrics and read this part "And the ground below grew colder As they put you down inside" which changed the song from being a simple Break up song to a song about losing your significant other. But why is Valentine's Day so importat in the song? because mostly likely that person died on that specific date. |

I think the lyrics are telling us the story of a divorce from both perspectives:
The First Verse, Pre Chorus and Chorus are from the husband's side, at the start of the verse it says "Telling me to go But hands beg me to stay" that second line to me means that their kids don't want him to leave them. and then the Pre Chorus and Chorus are him reasuring himself that he'll move foreward before this gets worse.
The 2nd Verse, Pre Chorus and Chorus are from the wife and they start with "You promise me the sky Then toss me like a stone" which is she saying that while he always sweet talked to her he ended up treating her like trash, her pre chorus is also shorter to represent how much she's not gonna take it anymore.
The guitar solo and the last chorus are meant to represent both and how they will not let the other person shatter them through all of this. |

When talking about the Album where this song comes from DEAD LETTERS, they havethis to say: "Each song is a letter to somebody. It could be an apology, a confession, or a cry for help."
With that in mind, i think is safe to say that the song is about the lead seeing this "weird" girl going throug some harsh times. |
