| Dawes – Things Happen Lyrics | 6 years ago |

Verse 1: The speaker is talking about a failed relationship that he simply can't get over. And while he combs over the memories and tries to find fault in a single person (arguably the woman the speaking was dating), He realizes that there is no innocent party. That both played a factor in their relationship's demise. Verse 2: It reminds me of the saying: Every lie has a kernel of truth. We unintentionally show our true selves during those moments of lying, It's human nature. And while some may overlook these "little" white lies, The speaker can't help but dwell on them. Especially, as mentioned in verse 1, when he's combing over these memories to find what went wrong. Chorus: And regardless of what went wrong or how you have been wronged or who wronged you, Eventually you have to say: Things Happen. Letting yourself dwell on the past simply eats you up and prevents you from moving on and trying to better yourself. Verse 3: The verse goes in line with the chorus. The speaker now accepts that he has to be different and move on so he's driving out to Oakland to clear his mind and find a new way to clear a path forward in life. Bridge: The speaker ultimately decides that in order to move forward, He once again has to revisit the past and visit his ex, Lily. And it seems that while the two have chemistry together, Things simply never work out. The line about the magnets is a perfect reflection of this. With magnets, Opposites attract, North and South. Two north magnets (or two dead ends) aren't compatible. It's a way for the speaker to say that while ultimately, They have no issue being friends or at times lovers, They will never be anything more because they simply don't click. So overall, I view this as a reflection of a failed relationship and the speaker slowly moving towards the acceptance that "Things Happen" and it's about getting back up and moving forward after getting knocked down. |

| Lord Huron – Emerald Star Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
In life, It seems that we find more purpose in the pursuit of things rather than the thing itself. Once we reach our goal, It's like OK.....what's next? Often times, We come off feeling as unfulfilled as we did before we started the pursuit. And for the main character, It happens when he finally reaches the Emerald Star (his ex). It's bad enough that she still wants nothing to do with him but now that his journey is over with, now that he has finally found her, he feels just as incomplete as he did in the first song of the album. He's still just as lost because his purpose, once again, is gone. |

| Lord Huron – Lost in Time and Space Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| The main character's girlfriend leaves him and it shatters his life completely. She was his purpose in life and without her, He feels truly lost in time and space. And yet in the midst of all that suffering comes an epiphany and a new purpose in life. That purpose: Find her. | |
| Julian Casablancas + The Voidz – Human Sadness Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
The song is about the relationship with his father and the relationship with his newborn son. Julian's father has always been distant and was never really around for him growing up. The main reason he started drinking and acting out was in an attempt to gain his father's attention but it never worked. As of now, The relationship is on slightly better terms but they still are not close. This song is Julian's acceptance that he will never have that kind of relationship with his father. And the second part of the song is how fatherhood has changed him and how he would never be the kind of man his father was. He is just totally in love with his son and being a father has really turned his life around. And I think that's where the acceptance comes from like just because your dad never acted like one doesn't mean that you have to do the same. So instead of trying to bend head over heels to gain his father's love and affection, He's gonna show his son the love and affection that was never shown to him and break the cycle. |

| Daft Punk – Instant Crush (feat. Julian Casablancas) Lyrics | 9 years ago |

I view the song as a man trying to justify a relationship with his friend's girlfriend after their casual fling during the summer. The man tries through out the song to convince her why she should be with him. For example - He tries to explain to the woman that while she views her boyfriend in a certain light, The boyfriend is a totally different person when he's with his friends. The boyfriend is essentially two faced and isn't being true to her. This is the man's way of saying look I view myself as more worthy of your affections because I can treat you better than he really treats you. The woman all through out the song is just brushing him off. She knows it was a fling, A mistake, and she doesn't want to advance it any further than it already has. She doesn't wanna risk the life she built in order to see if this fling could end up being something more. The boyfriend during this time has realized that something has happened between his friend and his girlfriend yet he remains willfully ignorant about the situation. The main reason being because he doesn't want to lose two people that are clearly important to him. And as the song progresses, The man has accepted that he has been friend zoned but he doesn't give up hope. He remains attached to his friend more than he ever has before because it's a way to constantly be in the woman's presence. He holds onto the long shot that she may change her mind and he wants to be there for when she does. |

| The Strokes – You Talk Way Too Much Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
I think the first half of the song is the male accepting that their relationship is done while the female simply asks for more time in an attempt to work things out. In the second half, It's vise versa. He thinks they've finally worked things out and wants to stay but she doesn't wanna be with him any more. And by telling him that he talks way too much, It's her way of saying that she is tired of his attempts to work things out and needs to move on. His reply of she's not suppose say that, you taught me too much is broken down quite easily. He learned from her and by being with her that he shouldn't be so quick to give up on things. Hard work is needed to keep things rolling. And by the end of the song the roles have reversed. He picks up her good habit of putting in the effort while she picks up his bad one of wanting to leave as soon as things get hard. |

| The Strokes – What Ever Happened? Lyrics | 9 years ago |

The menion of the night of the iguana sums it up. This is a man whose life isn't a play that can be written with a happy ending. He is having his own crisis because the woman in his life is leaving him. Not for another man but to be the desirable single woman again rather than be in a committed and fulfilling relationship. In the song is also a mention of the other meaning of the album. It's a shot at those who once praised the band for being unique and the new face of rock. And by the time their new album drops, They're repetitive and stale. Like how can you be so critically acclaimed at first and then garbage the next when nothing has changed. |

| Simon and Garfunkel – I Am A Rock Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
The song is kind of ironic with the music being so upbeat and the lyrics being sad and depressing. I feel the song is about a man in self isolation to avoid being hurt any more by loved ones and friends. And through out the song he tries to comfort himself and find ways to justify his behavior. In the end, He realize how wrong he is. A rock feels no pain and an island never cries. I think this is his way of starting to break his mold. He realizes by the end that he is human and feelings are just a natural part of being a human. No matter how hard he tries, Those feelings will always exist. |
