To me, this song is about "him" - the author of the song - being haunted by the memory of losing his lover when he was very young. "When God took her with time, God made me quite alone." This line implies that the loss is a permanent one; that she died. The second verse reminds me of a recurring dream of a past memory. It's like he's seeing the girl he lost again in a prom-dance-esque reminiscent dream, and he knows he can only be with her in that state. "If I never leave this dance floor, I'll never leave you here." This song always has a very powerful effect on me when I listen to it. It invokes a feeling of deep pain and sadness...the kind that can rip through a person. This song always gives me chills and has brought tears to my eyes in a way that no other song has. Most people cry when they hear a song because they can personally relate to the pain the song portrays. For me, it's more like feeling so fucking sorry for the song-writer that it brings tears to my eyes. That makes this song a very strong one, and (I think) one of Tom Delonge's most well-written ones. |
