I think John is singing about living life slowly, one day at a time. Everybody else is "running everywhere at such a speed," trying to squeeze as much as they can into their short life, but "there's no need." Sometimes, you've got to just relax and enjoy the moment. Stop worrying about wasting your time, because it'll drive you crazy. |

It seems pretty clear that the lyrics are about growing up, and how scary that can be, but that what's ahead of you is worth so much more than what you have to give up. Growing up IS scary, but that's what makes it so exciting. |
