| Personally I think it's about how after being hurt so many times you start building a shell (The Wall) around yourself and sometimes it can go too far and you become numb to what people say to you. So much so that you become an emotionless zombie. | |

The lyrics and because of when it was written and published lead me to believe that it is about the Vietnam war. "It's not what we would choose (choose, choose) to do (to do, to do)" Many people were drafted against their will into a pointless war. "And who knows which is which and who is who" It was hard in the jungle to tell which Vietnamese forces were who since they wore the same uniforms and spoke the same language. |
