| Electric Light Orchestra – Boy Blue Lyrics | 9 years ago |

When I met my future wife it was '76 and she turned me on the baddest band in Rock history the ELO. Years before the movie "Boogie Nights" came along she said that "Livin' Thing" was about hot passionate fornication, being the theme song of the movie confirmed that. We had all of the ELO's albums and often enjoyed their music getting stoned drifting off into the blue. Boy Blue was always special to me for it seemed there was something it made familiar in the scenario of my mind but I could never understand all of the lyrics no matter how hard I tried. But my sweet beautiful little wife said that song reminds her of me and what I was like when I returned from Vietnam where I had done 3 combat tours as a marine grunt. But I returned in '69 and did not meet her until '76. She knew what my night sweats and bad dreams were about and she was the one who "threw me down a line and stop me from drowning.." Today for the first time I saw the lyrics to Boy Blue in it's Civil War setting and it blew my mind! My wife didn't understand the lyrics to know that it was a strong anti war statement and neither did I but those last 2 verses any man whose suffered the misery and indignity of war knows how ignoble it is and would not wish it on any man friend or foe. My wife caught the reality of that song and it took me years to finally read the lyrics and I saw myself just as my wife did years ago. Now my Sangri La has gone away, she seem to drift out on the wind that came here somewhere softly from the blue....Jude's got a hurt I know... |
