Smog – Dress Sexy At My Funeral Lyrics 7 years ago
It's about a couple who were outwardly conservative, (in the nice way), were proper and modest and gave to charity. She never dressed sexily or flirted. They were very conventional.

But secretly between them, they had a very passionate sex life, really loved and desired each other. Now he's dead, he wants her to show that. To let everyone know what a passionate woman she really is, how very attractive she is, at least in his eyes.

A couple who were well behaved but had a very hot relationship. Now he wants her to shine so everyone can know her, a bit, as he did.

Also he's showing off a little bit himself, post-mortem. Them fucking in the graveyard just gives it that nice contrast that sums it up.

It's a very romantic song, considering the guy's dead.

Hall and Oates – I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) Lyrics 8 years ago
I think it's scat. His woman wants to shit right into his mouth, but he isn't going for that. He'd do almost anything she wants him to, oh, but not munching down her steaming logs for breakfast.

I can't blame him. It's a pretty kinky thing to ask, you'd have to really really love someone for that. And that's without even going into her diet, what she eats. I bet that can make it a lot better or worse.

It reminds me of Meat Loaf's song, "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)".

Except I think in Meat Loaf's case it was rimming. As in, letting her rim him. Basically Meat is a big guy, and it's not a surprise that he gets a bit sweaty back there. You can probably smell it a bit just when you're sucking his dick. So getting his girl's tongue up around his fudgeloaf factory, he won't do that. He's afraid she'll think he's putrid and disgusting. And he's not really wrong, I imagine it really would be a challenge.

Maybe right after a bath, like immediately after, and if Meat takes extra care to wash his whole back passage, dry well, and apply talcum powder. Maybe then he'd let his lady give his prostate a tongue-bashing. But even so, if he did, after she'd tried it once, would she ever want to do that?

Iggy Pop – Nightclubbing Lyrics 8 years ago
@[Willboe:18128] Yup. Does sound a lot like a song about night clubbing. Particularly back when it was made. Which was probably a better time to be going out during, even if it was a bit infested with disco.

That's the problem, people, me included, listen to the really good songs from an era and think about how great it must've been. Forgetting completely the awful shit that 99% of people listened to. The Osmonds must've sold a thousand records for every one Iggy did. And there was so much really, really awful also-ran disco music.

And the same applies to today. Still some good music, and lots of awful music.

Bob Dylan – From a Buick 6 Lyrics 9 years ago
I think something a lot of people miss, particularly pretensious music "critics" who are getting on in age, is that many of Dylan's lyrics seem to be there because they rhymed. I'm positive this is the case. People go on about the evocative worlds he creates, the allusions, etc etc.

Personally I'm convinced he was blagging. Use something that sounds a bit poetic but with very little, often no, firm meaning. People can read whatever they like into it, and nobody can say they're wrong. Same blag post-modern art uses.

@[BraveSirRobin:17577] You and Wikipedia both confused this song with "It takes a lot to laugh...". Don't suppose you wrote that entry? Or else it's a weird coincidence. I suppose they're both on the same album.

@[kyasarin:16815] The Divine Marquis was not a serial killer, he never killed anybody. His only "crime" was to be a dirty old bastard who wouldn't shut up about his opinions on his "betters".

He killed many, horribly, in his books. But not in real life. He's one of the great philosophers.

No that's a different song.

@[farouhk:16813] I don't think the Breeders sampled anybody. Kim has a thing against using computers in music. Plus y'know, it sounds like the band's singing voices. It's them doing it.

@[zenzella:16812] I think one or more ads has used the wibbly-wobbly riff from the beginning. Probably that.

Or maybe some promo on MTV nicked the music for one of their own shows. Old MTV, of course, when they played music occasionally.

@[PorkChopExpress:16811] Nah, there could've been a million things happened to Kim that she wrote about. It's just being in the Pixies is more or less all WE know.

It's probably about nothing. Wave Of Mutilation was a song about killing yourself but somehow not drowning and hanging out with mermaids. Pixies songs don't make a whole shitload of sense, so I suppose Kim's don't have to either.

Have we eliminated possible French surrealist films?
