| Meaning - live in the here and now. Or as Buddha said "Through our senses the world appears. Through our reactions we create delusions.Without reactions the world becomes clear." | |
| Tom Petty – Leave Virginia Alone Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| The song makes sense if it is about Virginia Woolf. Adore her BRAIN. Check. Not like you and me. Check. Leave her alone. Well that might be a comment on her suicide or a comment on modern critics. Broke all the rules. Yes. From Wikipedia //Like many of her contemporaries, some of her writing is now considered offensive. As a result, she is considered polarising, a revolutionary feminist and socialist hero or a purveyor of hate speech.[344]. [345]//https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Woolf | |
| Neil Young – Don't Let It Bring You Down Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
verse #1. soon to be dead man lying by side of road. killed last night. how? verse #2. apparently a blind man became excited thinking he had the answer to life, (this is pretty sarcastic in that his answer is - sight is helpful) he starts running (not smart for a blind man to be running in the rain at night) and gets killed. the ambulance picks him up, what is left is his white cane lying in the gutter. who knows, maybe Neil saw this happen in real life. the message here is that knowledge may not be as illuminating as we would think, in fact it can be harmful. knowing Neil's disillusionment with the 70's drug culture, it might be a comment on hard drug use. you may think hard drugs are an answer, but maybe they get you killed instead. in any case, Neil is going to tell us how to feel better about the harsh reality of life. chorus - life is rough, the only solace one can reliably get is from love. castles burning are false ideals going up in smoke. critique - many people would disagree that love is the answer. for example, F. Scott Fitzgerald said //It is in the thirties that we want friends. In the forties we know they won't save us any more than love did.// but perhaps love IS the answer when we are in our twenties, which was Neil's age when he penned this. |
