| The narrator is looking over a 3rd story window in Utrecht, Netherlands, a medieval city whose buildings are rarely built taller than a few floors. He's looking out, thinking about a person across the ocean back home in the US ("across the water, somewhere"). He wakes, shocked, to find this person suddenly appear in the flesh in Utrecht. It's so shocking because of the distance and the unexpectedness. Pretty straightforward, beautiful song. | |
