The song juxtaposes love and pain and eventually equates their weight. Loving so deeply is to realize loss completely and know the immediacy if it’s nature. The rational conclusion is to never start loving at all; why would you love what you will lose? Therefore I hope I find my true love soon or maybe never. |

this song takes the listener from a romantic street kiss to the absolute end of the relationship where slurs are uttered and love is “wrung from life”. It is a retrospective but perhaps not pessimistic glimpse at the entirety of a relationship. the song finishes with a gamble: should I give this a shot? No answer is given. The listener decides. |

This song is about alcohol and the general malaise and indifference it creates. It sharpens immediate experience but dulls lasting meaning, especially in the realm of interpersonal relationships. |

This song is about someone who is in a relationship. Their relationship is nearly over but there are no clear signs. This person is waiting patiently to start a relationship with with their newfound interest, but “it hasn’t happened yet…”
It’s exciting to think of what might be and they have to contain their excitement |

I was just watching mad men, season one. I think this song could loosely refer to Don Drapers life. He wanted people to not pry into his life, he was a huge fan of old fashioneds, and his father "ruined both his sons" with religious upbringing and manipulation. Also in the first one or two episodes he is seen putting on a brand new "clean white shirt" after spending the night at his mistresses. In an episode I recently watched his coworker says something about his "name on the building". Lots of things about the song seem almost directly reminiscent of mad men. |
