Neil Young – Birds Lyrics 2 years ago
To me, this song has always been about the death of a beloved one that was taken too soon.

One partner died too soon and "fly away with you" but they are still with them in spirit guiding them to the afterlife with them but the path seems endless to rejoin their beloved "tomorrow, see the day that never comes" it always feels like the living partner is ready to die and see their loved one tomorrow but it never comes and they are left in pain.

However, they will guide them in spirit and be a shadow always watching over them until they finally join them and hope they have the will to still live a happy life "shadow on the things you know, feather fall around you, and show you the way to go"

Eventually the time comes for them to die and rejoin their beloved "special morning brings another sun. Tomorrow, see the things that never come,Today" they are finally ready to die and once again see their "guardian angel" that has been flying over them and guiding them back to their "nestled wings"

Dave Matthews Band – Some Devil Lyrics 8 years ago
I think that this song is about a man desperately wanting to get over the death of his soulmate. The devil I think is referring to the commitment his soul made to this woman and the never ending love for her. The angel I believe is the side of his life he could live if he could just let her go and move on to live his life. The angel wants to save him from his grief, but he endlessly embraces the devil of his heart even when he begs himself not to.

Mad Season – Lifeless Dead Lyrics 9 years ago
This is a beautifully tragic love song about their engagement and subsequent struggles.

Originally they were engaged to be married sometime around 1993. At this point they had both been using but still were deeply in love. However as time went on Layne wrestled with getting clean while Demri continued use. By the time this song was written in 1995, Layne had made the hard decision to cut off Demri financially to try to stop her addiction and stop enabling her. Rather than stop she fully went off the deep end and moved around while feeding her addiction by going as far as selling her body. Layne was also teetering on staying clean with help from Mad Season and struggling.

Layne could only tragically watch as he had to stay away from her to help stave off his addiction and had to watch their demon destroy the thing he loved more than anything. Her addiction and need to get hugh could never be fed and Layne had to see the promise she made to marry him go by the wayside.

It is a gorgeous and tragic love song.

Lines such as

"You must know that I'm gonna win"

"I promise on our love she said"

"Till or when her hungers fed"

Show how her struggle continues to have her produce lies.

I like to imagine that ultimately Layne was hurt the most by this because he could finally see that she was the most important thing in the word to him, and she was not to him anymore. This song is his swan song on their relationship and I think him trying to close that door.
