All of the interpretations here are either wrong or lack clarity. The chorus is the guys lying to themselves, telling themselves the girl is just a sunflower. But she's a special kind of sunflower. Sunflowers, while common (the verses contradict the idea that she's common), are also resilient. Also, they're calling each of their girls a "sunflower" trying to get the girls to leave them, but by this time "sunflower" has a new meaning, something common has become something much more: "I think your love would be too much" "Fightin' for my trust and you won't back down Even if we gotta risk it all right now" |
