Nine Inch Nails – Something I Can Never Have Lyrics 9 years ago
@[purpleprynce:17362]

While it actually ís about a lost relationship, I've used heroin daily myself for half a year and still use it every other week and this song each time I listen to it triggers a strong association to heroin, even though I know the song is about lost love and the intense pain and obsession that can give.

I think it's fine to have your own associations with a song, even though they are different from what the artist intended when writing it :)

It is very obvious that this is about a lost love; still loving someone (albeit very obsessively) after breaking up but knowing the relationship is over for good, and the song is describing the resulting psychological pain and the obsession itself.

Beautiful song, although I can't relate to the actual meaning of the lyrics; certain sentences taken out of context speak to me véry strongly and fit the atmosphere just as well as the actual song meaning does.

Funny that you write that people may believe this song is a reference to heroin use because it's so easy to hear it's not. It is very obvious that it's about a lost love; still loving someone (albeit very obsessively) after a break up but knowing the relationship is over for good, and the song is describing the resulting psychological pain.

But certain sentences in this song always remind me of heroin regardless, (I've used heroin daily for half a year and still use it every other week). Just certain sentences though that instantly triggered the link in my mind; even while I knew what the song is actually about.

I honestly don't see how anyone can seriously think it's nót about a lost love though as the lyrics are pretty straight forward.

FC Kahuna – Hayling Lyrics 9 years ago
Keeping in mind the rather melancholic almost dark feel of the chords and the music during the intro which then remains melancholic but simultaneously has a more soothing feel especially during the moments the lyrics repeat:

Don't think about all those things you fear.
Just be glad to be here.

It says to not think about about all the things you fear, that are negative, all your worries, your problems, and then either to literally just be here as in exist or be here as in this place / situation.

(It also reminds me of a parallel to my own life which is when I have many legit fears and stress inducers and post traumatic stress disorder and especially when I do ketamine or smoke heroin and everything is just ok for that time; the fears are gone for the moment; I feel this, personal, interpretation also fits the dark melancholic sound of a major part of the track while the music is more soothing when the lyrics are heard.)

Ladytron – Mu-Tron Lyrics 9 years ago
While this has no lyrics; I just want to comment that personally, I find this the best track they ever made, I wish they would release an album purely in this style, or atleast more tracks in this vein; while many of their tracks are brilliant I regret the fact that Mu-Tron is really the only track of it's kind in their discography (that I know of, I haven't listened to every single song yet); maybe they could've formed a side project focussing on this style. I absolutely love it.
