This song is about a broken relationship. There is no passion, no desire to be with each other, but the thought of not being together is too painful. The comfort level and love is there and always will be, and letting that person go and moving on is a concept that neither person wants to exercise. The positive memories, the fact that the two of them are best friends and yet so toxic to one another will prevent them from being honest with themselves and will allow them to continue on in a painful relationship. The lack of intimacy slowly breaks down both of them and eventually even the slightest touch is rare. It hurts like hell, and yet they keep it going. It's an addiction and takes a lot to finally let go and move on. A realization needs to occur, that things will never be right. It was never meant to be. It was a lesson in life and an experience that both will never forget. The love will always be there, but the hurt will never be settled. Moving on and experiencing a different kind of love with someone else is the only thing that will allow you to move on. Never fully. This song can speak to anyone who has been in an abusive relationship, or just generally an unhealthy one. Letting go is the hardest thing in the world, and pretending just seems easier than actually moving on and cutting ties fully.
