Bowie has arrived at his worst fear..... He's an addict and has lost control.
Station to Station. Going through life's motions as an addict.
Most important album/statement. Bowies realization that he has to make changes. Berlin trilogy and a contentment next. |

Listen for the rocking chair/cigarette drag intro.... an old man rocking, telling us a story, an amazing, colorful story. Fearing death, his end. As the tale wraps, the demons come to take him away. Patient and kind at first then bold and intolerant towards end. A chilling, remarkable odyssey. Bowies best! |

Bowie is warning us of where he is going. "please don't believe in me" "please disagree with me" David Jones was a failure. David Bowie was being formed. A sad self-recognition. |

Postscript:
This song is brilliant and haunting. Bowie wasn't schizophrenic and he wasn't cold, as has been said so many times about him. David Jones lives on the first 3 albums. This is David bearing his soul. No one cared. Bowie was an invention of surgical, scalpel-like amputation. If you want to know Bowie, you only need the first 3 albums. |

Bowie lamenting the fall of the hippie nation and it's ideals. He hated that he was rejected when he bared his soul on the first 3 albums. He retreated into characters afterwards. Ironically, that's how he'd break through. His career is kind of sad in that way. at |
