| Bruce Springsteen – Walk Like A Man Lyrics | 11 months ago |
|
"walk like a man" - metaphor for moving on. He faced some harsh times in his life and now is going to embrace the suck and continue his life with courage. That is the meaning of the song, and partially meaning of the whole album (which is a 1987 masterpiece). |

| The Kinks – Going Solo Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| It's a beautiful song about parents coming to grips that their child is growing up faster than they would like and that it is time for them to let go. The youngster wants to go out and experience life on his own. They're worried he's not ready and he's going to get hurt, and they would rather she wait until he is better prepared. They still see him as a child. But he needs to get out and experience life, he'll get hurt, but he'll get over it and learn from it on the long walk of growth to adulthood. | |
| Bob Dylan – Covenant Woman Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| I don't know the meaning but sounds like a love confession in a very intimate moment. The God motif is typical for the album. I would not interpret it as a religious song though. It's more of a simple love song than anything else | |
| Bob Dylan – My Wife's Home Town Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| Song about divorce, quite simple. I love how he phrases though, as always it is the key to understanding the song. | |

| breakup song | |

| definitely a breakup song. Learning to fly is a methaphor for moving on after a divorce/failed relationship. Simple as! | |
| Bob Dylan – The Times They Are A-Changin' Lyrics | 1 year ago |
|
I think this is a song about breakup. It's all about change, transition, a lack of stability. Just like a relationship or marriage can prove to be unstable, so is our whole life. But for me personally this is what this song is about anyway. The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is rapidly fadin' And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin' |
|
| R.E.M. – Losing My Religion Lyrics | 1 year ago |
|
Oh no, I've said too much I haven't said enough this song is clearly about a breakup. It's an afterthought, it's a deep reflection that the guy is hoing through after the couple has decided to split with each other. Perhaps he was even dumped, but this is not explicitly stated. And for one thing that we all can be sure is that song isnct about God. I am not going to read all the comments, but maybe a couple of them to see if there is anything I missed on. |

| Bob Dylan – Positively 4th Street Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
It's about someone who is jealous to the point where they want to control your life, or at least keep themselves busy in trying to keep up with your life, instead of minding their own bussiness. It's about any toxic kind of relationship, too. It's basically about a person, who has no sense of privacy, about someone who needs to be constantly stimulated, always ready to drain energy from others. But most of all, this is simply Bob Dylan playing with us all, and showing yet another great word game. He is the master lyricist, ultimate songwriter of the XX century. No one comes even close, here I said it. |

| Bob Dylan – Oxford Town Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| It's a song about racism and it also touches the topic of never ending misery in this world. Nothing new under the sun, new times but old problems and pointless wars. It's a protest song, for sure. Bob Dylan wrote many protest songa early on, inspired by Woody Guthrie and other legends. | |
| Bob Dylan – Simple Twist of Fate Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
I think it's about lost love. Probably was unrequited, or became unrequited with time. The best hopeless romantic song ever. "I still believe she was my twin but I lost the ring". The most interesting thing is that he knows that there is no such thing as fate. He just uses that concept to cope with his loss... but he is fully aware that it was his fault, he blames himself that he could not keep her. But, he can't change the past, and thus; blame it on a simple twist of fate. Brilliant lyrics, like anything on BotT |

| Bob Dylan – Feel a Change Coming On Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
One of his hidden gems, from this 2009 album. Alright, Modern Times was a bit more sophisticated and maybe had more grounded and solid songs. But this album is still so fun! Like the other commenter already noticed, the stanza about "dreams" is beyond cool. It truly is wonderful. The whole song rocks. Not just lyrically but musically too. As for the meaning, it's whatever you make it; as always with Dylan songs. It's unlimited number of interpretations. What does it mean to me? Cherish the present moment, and leave the past behind. . . Let go of old heartbreaks, close that door and begin a new journey... Meet new people, make new acquaintances, and one of these new peoples might be your next lover... You might just not give up yet. That's what I get from it anyway. "We got so much in common We strive for the same old ends And I just can't wait Wait for us to become friends" |
|

Looks like a song about a toxic relationship. "Knowing it's so wrong but feeling so right"... Like Stevie Wonder sang. Passion vs Reason . . . your heart on fire vs calm river in your mind. Choose wisely. |

| Gordon Lightfoot – Rainy Day People Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
Okay, now for me this song is about people from "folk world". To put it simple, as a parallel example I will give the song "Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys" by Ed Bruce. This song is about cowboys, right? Their behaviours, attitude, their general way of being. So here, I believe this song is the same, except it's about folk people. People who connect with each other, because they have a similar sensitivity, similar taste, same "roots", if you may. So they meet on a rainy they, and they get along nicely, but they are complex... Just like cowboys. Just like all kinds of people in the whole wide world. They may seem really simple and stright-forward on the outside, but they hide a lot of beneath, deep inside they are exactly that - "rainy day" people. Cool, isn't it? This is what makes them special! Anyway this is what I got from this song. I didn't think, didn't even pay attention to details - this is just what I feel and I felt like sharing my own interpretation. |

| Lindsey Buckingham – Countdown Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| @[tsully818:46377] it means another thing to everybody, don't worry. Just enjoy the music bro :) | |
| Lindsey Buckingham – Countdown Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| It's about new beginnings. Waiting on the countdown means waiting for New Year's Eve countdown, because that's a symbolic new start. He is going to be another person next year, he has New Year resolutions and he is going to meet them. Soche waits quietly, "sitting in the shade", until New Year comes. And when it comes, he is going to kick it, and rock this world wild. | |
| Eric Clapton – Anyway the Wind Blows Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
It's about running on a hurricane down to the sea... So it's about everything and nothing in the same time... JJ Cale wrote the song. He was a very clever guy, one of the best in the industry. He was a bit of a philosopher and definitely an open-minded thinker. This song is almost self-explanatory; it's about never looking back, and just carrying on with your life. Move it on, go ans enjoy your journey - after all, anyway the wind blows! The one-eyed undertaker blows a funeral horn, and there's no time to think... So just dive into whatever you're doing |
|
| Bob Dylan – No Time to Think Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
I love the song. Meaning doesn't matter much to me, it's the way he sings the words anyway, not what he sings per se. I mean, in his voice I can hear bitterness, anger and irony. After all, it's classic Dylan. He knows what he sings. I doubt that there could be only one possible meaning. Most of his songs are multi-interpretable. |

| J.J. Cale – Losers Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I think it's a song about losers - the less fortunated peoplr who happen to have less or simply be hung-up. The society hates losers, for some reason. Why do we keep contribuiting to the conditions, where these losers suffer? Wouldn't it be better to leave them in peace, and actually lend a hand, so that they can become more succesfull? | |

| Waylon Jennings – Rose in Paradise Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| @[hunter1076:36286] thanks for your contribution to this topic. Interesting interpretation. I think this song remains quite mysterious, as we never learn what happened to the girl, and to the gardener (and who was the gardener). A murder seems convincing, but then "no trace of her was ever found"? If he murdered her, why there would be no body? It might be a hint that she actually ran away with the gardener (a possible secret lover?). I don't know, I guess it's meant to confuse the listener and stay unclear. | |
| David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics | 4 years ago |
|
@[osel:36195] so basically you are trying to say that the life's essence comes from within. I don't know. I used to think a lot about life, and from my point of view it is pointless. The only thing that really makes you feel good is hedonism, which is not good morally, but at least satisfying. If you take hedonistic approach to life you lose nothing, you still die in the end, but at least you have a bit of fun before death. Whereas people who stay away from pleasure and other lustful activities, actually deprive themselves of many fantastic moments, and they live relatively boring lives. Then, they die of course like anybody else. Like really what's so bad about hedonism? And why Buddha or any other religion would know better ways? Who cares, they live their lives in these churches and monasteries, and what results from it? What follows, what emerges? Let me tell you, nothing, they die just like anybody else, just in peace and serenity |

| Tom Petty – I Won't Back Down Lyrics | 5 years ago |

I think it has similar meaning to that of "I'm free falling" "I wanna leave this world for a while" Rhymes with "Well I know what's right I got just one life And I won't back down..." This song is about sticking to your dreams, and not letting the world let you down. To persevere, to be stubborn and keep on dreaming. To have your own inner world, and to reach beyond your imagination. |

| Bob Dylan – I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| No interpretation here :P just wanted to say I like how he sings in it, makes me relaxed and feel at ease. In general I love Rough and Rowdy Ways for this exact reason; the whole album is very calm and quiet (well, maybe two songs are a bit more energetic, the blues-style ones), the level of decibels is very low, although you can still perfectly hear the vocals AND the accompanying instruments. Well done, Bob, another Noble prize-worthy material! | |

| Neil Young – Heart Of Gold Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
Well, I agree that the music side is very important here. What is interesting is that the subject, the persona is getting old, which is quite tragic. He/she already got that old that she is starting to lose hope, thinking that he/she might die alone, abandoned, pitiful etc... But as we know, the song ends with a major chord (most of the song we have a minor key feeling, precisely e minor which is the 6th degree of the G Major scale in which the song is written, until it resolves in the end and goes from C major to G major and ends on it), which I find quite meaningful. Why? In my opinion it suggests that the persona has finally found the heart of gold (could be a lover, a husband, a wife, a partner, or whatever), so the song ends with a very optimistic accent. I love it, especiallt Johnny Cash version, he nailed it completely with his deep voice and melancholy. |

| J.J. Cale – After Midnight Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
I think the guys got the meaning wrong, but anyway here's MY interpretation of this late JJ Cale classic: After midnight, we're gonna let it all hang out - basically he is saying here that he lives his life very easy, he takes one step at the time, no rushing at all... Just hanging out, a little goes a long way. You know, like a minimalistic approach, gypsy life style, and lots of laid-back chilling in a trailer camp with a guitar or a banjo. We're gonna chug-a-lug and shout - with this one I agree, it's about alcohol, but I think it's rather about either whiskey or fine red wine. Gonna shake your tambourine - we are going to play our instruments, be it guitars, percussion, drums, banjos, ukuleles, bass guitars, violins or whatever - we are all gonna jam together. After midnight it's gonna be peaches and cream - "Peaches and cream (also known as peaches'n cream) is a simple dessert consisting of sliced peaches and whipped cream, popular in the United States (especially the South) and other countries, and traditionally served in the summer." - taken from Wikipedia.org So, basically he is using this dessert as a metaphor for having a good time, as sweet as this dessert, or possibly they will also enjoy eating by some nice food trucks while jamming in this trailer camp. We're gonna cause talk and suspicion - people always are full of envy when someone is enjoying himself freely, making a lot with so little, so there sure are gonna be people who will be talking behind their back. Give an exhibition - they are gonna show that they don't need silver, gold, and a big mansion to have fun - again, simple gypsy life style in the woods, and, thus, no real responabilities. Find out what it is all about - their gypsy life style is full of random events, you never know what the next day will bring... Like, will it rain and maybe they will have to move to another camp? It's all different when living on the road than living in a house, but this is the way they chose to live. Hope you like my few cents. |

| Bob Dylan – It Ain't Me Babe Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| Great track. I think he chooses the life of a poet, that's whe he can't be with her. So this song could also be taken as a definition of poetry - it is the opposite of a normal, average. Poetry is something above this mere, grey and fragile life; people come and go, love comes and dies, but poetry remains. That's why he chooses poetry over love, even though he knows she is beautiful and tempting. But it is his strong belief in poetry that stops him from falling in love with her. Love is foe mere mortals; poetry is endless and eternal. | |
| Waylon Jennings – Rose in Paradise Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| The last verse is kind of unclear. I never really did get why the idea of rose was used. The rose as the woman would be way too cliché, it has to mean something more... but i don't know what. Anyone? | |

|
@[brandon346:33196] that's just sexist to say of you. There is nothing "a woman has", each woman is different, and s are males. Your comment is a pitiful simplification, and is based on cliche stereotypes. You have to read more into Dylan, he is using metaphors on many levels, and is never straight-forward. |
