| I have always believed that the song was about a naval aviator "Captain" shot down in the Vietnam war. His wife was used to waiting for him each time he left on a "cruise" , but she his time, not knowing if he was either killed or POW, she finally decided to stop waiting and move on with her life. A sad but all too often occurrence in the post was era. | |
