Barbara Dickson – I Know Him So Well Lyrics 9 years ago
I think the end of the song is ironic. Despite the fact that both women profess to "know him so well," one thinks the relationship failed because he needs "more security" while the other thinks he needs "his fantasies and freedom." These two views of what he needs seem polar opposites to me. Despite what they say and believe, neither woman knows him as well as they think.

Barbara Dickson – I Know Him So Well [From Chess] Lyrics 9 years ago
Apart from the general story, I think there's an ironic twist at the end. Although both women profess to "know him so well," one thinks what went wrong with their relationship is that he needs "more security" while the other thinks he needs "his fantasies and freedom." These two ideas seem like polar opposites. So I think they don't really know him all that well--only that was he needed wasn't them or probably any long-term relationship.
