I don't really know what this is about...but the lines 'As our bodies fall apart, and left to the dust and bones. All we have is the fear is we'll never carry you home' sound like the song's about Richey. About how he just disappeared and they'll never know what ever happened to him. I doubt the whole song's about him but that's just how I interpreted those few lyrics :) |

I'm not here to comment the meaning because it seems like people have already done that and it looks like they've got it spot on. What I wanted to say was that the line 'Things have never been so swell' really reminds me of the song 'Today' by the Smashing Pumpkins. Kurt's sarcastic tone reminds me of the meaning behind Billy Corgan's lyric 'Today is the greatest day I have ever known'. Meaning today is the greatest day because it can't get any worse... |

I'm not 100% sure what this song is about so I'm just guessing. But I believe it's about depression. Obviously the lines 'the only way to gain approval is by exploiting the very thing that cheapens me' refer to Richey's self harm. I also think the song's about looking back and wishing you were happy again, like when you were young. But, this is just what I believe, so I could be completely wrong! |
