John Frusciante – Omission Lyrics 7 years ago
i believe this song has a lot to do with addiction, and how you can overcome it. it being a song behind the movie bob and the monster reinstated that idea for me.
i believe "omission" is him finally surrendering to addiction and giving up his own will to the hands of god. you must truly surrender to a god of your understand when trying to beat addiction as well as understand you are fully powerless in controlling your own will. "going nowheres the only clear shot" reiderates that since it shows you have to learn you cannot control everything and you must leave your will and fate up to god.
"dedicating all of before to now" shows our past lead us to exactly where we are right now. it also shows how we must use our past and understand our past is what leads us to this present moment right here and right now. without or past no matter how good or bad, we may not have learned or been shown what we needed to that led us where we were today.
"emphasizing things we wont allow" as well as "echoing what is not" shows how we must truly attempt everyday to remind ourselves how to live the correct way, or we just end up making the same mistakes. i also tie this into the line "try being someone youre not," because in addiction, our thinking brought us to the drink or the drug every single time. we must try to get out of ourselves and sometimes being someone we arent to get out of our own mindsets because they bring us back to the same place over and over again.
lastly we must always "centralize the force of rot" because if we cannot centralize what led us to addiction and self harm for so long in the first place, we will never know what is causing this illness of mind, body, and spirit in us and are more likely to repeat. also we must realize what is bothering us on a daily basis or we may be led back to the same ways. we must become self aware.
-----this is just my opinion on the song, but i believe truly in my heart that it is about addiction. being in recovery from drugs & alcohol myself, this song hit me in the soul SO hard when i was first getting clean and could finally feel again that i knew there was something about it and when i looked at the lyrics it confirmed that for me. i dont know john nor have i found any evidence from his interviews, but knowing both sides of the coin and the addiction/recovery aspects of this as well as how it was used in the trailer for the bob forrest movie about his addiction and his recovery i have a feeling this is what its about. plus it strikes me in my soul so hard and at the time in my life in early recovery i truly understood it in a way worss cannot describe, and it overcame my spirit and mind and showed me the way to do it.
one love,
