@[imho:15580] I think you got it exactly right. To me its obvious he's singing to one woman and about another. I'm not sure what exactly they're teaching kids as far as reading compression goes these days, but just the fact he uses both "she" and "you" in this song makes it blatantly obvious its more than one woman. Maybe its just obvious to me because this song fits my life so perfectly. I've been that guy. My girlfriend and I lost our intimacy, and even our ability to communicate about it. I fell apart, and when another woman opened her arms to me, I jumped into them. Eventually it became clear that I never really meant all that much to the other girl, She was basically just passing the time with me until she found who she really wanted, even though she claimed to love me. By the time I realized my mistake, it was too late, and it caused harm to my relationship with my girlfriend that still hasn't been fixed. |

First, wrong lyrics. Second, I haven't seen anyone seem like they really get it so far. From what I see, the singer had an affair and potentially left the woman he loved for the other one Pp, and this song is to the subject of that affair. Its obvious he isnt singing to his love as when he talks about her he says she/her, and then addresses someone else as you. His love, who he cheated on, was great, she did everything to make him happy, leaving her last boyfriend for him, cooking, and changing her whole life just to fit him. (thats the meaning of the skeleton key reference) The girl he cheated with however, only squirmed into his life to get what she wanted from him. She didn't really love him and he's figured that out, and regrets ever being with her. His dire affliction is that he was ruined his relationship for another woman. Now he sits around alone drinking to wash away the memories of the girl who ruined everything he had. |
