Perhaps this song is about children's beliefs that there is somebody out there far away who can spread happiness and make them enjoy music, however it has to be kept a secret for the time being because people are not ready for it yet. |

You wouldn't think this as a Radiohead song if you haven't heard it before, and although it has no real melody to it, it can be quite a powerful song. It clearly describes the perfect lifestyle where everything seems too good to be a reality, but then it says that there is something missing during the end and the narrator increasing becomes panicky and stressed about the lifestyle he has. Perhaps for some, the bits about a good lifestyle could be a bit of a wake-up call and inspire them to begin living the sort of lifestyle the sing portrays. |

From the lyrics throughout the song, it is clear this is somebody talking about how they want to commit suicide. They are explaining how they want to commit suicide, and they are telling you that its going to happen, by saying: "don't try to wake me in the morning, 'cause I will be gone". They then explain the person they are talking to that they shouldn't feel sad about it by saying: "don't feel bad for me, I want you to know....deep in the cell of my heart, I will feel so glad to go".
During the final minute or so of the song, they sing: "there is another world, there is a better world", showing you that this is the reason they want to commit suicide, but then they have a slight doubt about it by saying: "well there must be", and finally, when the word 'bye' is repeated at the end of the song, it is clear that they are saying their final goodbye before ending their life. Overall a very powerful, sad yet beautiful song, and one that often doesn't get credited enough as some other Smiths songs do. |

| The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics

This song is clearly about somebody who feels as if they have been trapped in a spiral that hasn't been easy to make their way out of, but finally they've broken free from that spiral and want to experience the outside world. In addition to this, they don't want to go back the way they came, as suggested by the lyric: "driving in your car, I never never want to go home" and "because I haven't got one" maybe suggests now they have had such a good experience and are finally witnessing life to the full, they do not know where to go back as they are perfectly content in the environment they are in. Personally, this song also brings a message of hope, with the title and repetitive lyrics at the end-"there is a light that never goes out". For me it means that there is always a glimmer of hope that won't fade away, meaning you could achieve anything and that the opportunity is always there. |

I think that this song is definitely a person expressing their love for somebody who is overweight but does not let this factor get in the way. They are saying that no matter what they will love them and that they're the one for them. |
