The Smiths – Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before Lyrics 9 years ago
I'm a great admirer of lyrics, especially those of Morrissey. I find his style of songwriting completely unique! Usually I can describe an artist as sounding like this person or that person, as styles would be similar, however vague. But Morrissey comes out with lines that NOBODY else could dream of! A prime example is the line in this song: "I still love you, only slightly less than I used to". In all my days, I never heard an artist express this view in lyrics! Usually songs are written from either side of the fence. For example, they either profess great love: "I love you!" or the opposite, hatred: "I can't stand you!". Instead, our unique lyricist, Morrissey, gives us the unique, and altogether more truthful lyric about a love that is still there, but fading... It's small nuances like these that propel Morrissey up to the very top of the list of my admired songwriters... Anyone out there agree? David in Éire (Ireland.)

The Smiths – Is It Really So Strange? Lyrics 9 years ago
@[CharmingMan:15190] I love Morrissey's lyrics, and he uses the metaphor of "home" quite often. Think in: "There is a Light.." when he sings "it's their home..." and "don't drop me home, because I haven't got one". He uses "home" at a metaphor for all that is safety and security. His lyrics often delve into being "far away from", "searching for" or having "lost" his home, and therefore his sense of security and wellbeing, which is just another single note in Morrissey's massive chord of lonliness, self-doubt and persuit of a soulmate that sustains his appeal as not only a musical artist, but a modern day poet and the perhaps unwilling, spokesman of his generation. (See Bob Dylan for a similar situation with himself and his overly zealous fans.) Respect to you all from myself, David, a writer and musician from Éire (Ireland).
