Within the song, "Adventure of a Lifetime" by Coldplay, it seems as if the overarching theme of the song is about feeling 'reborn' again because of a female presence. But, it is not completely certain if she is an actual outside character, or just an extension of the songwriter's imagination. This piece is an energetic, enjoyable song that provides nothing but high spirits, using multiple literary devices throughout the lyrics. For example, it states, "Turn your magic on, to me she'd say....Everything you want's a dream away....That's what she told me." Here we see the female presence, referred to as 'her', in action, informing the singer to "turn his magic on." It seems to me as if she his telling him to let loose, and just enjoy himself. In response to that, he states, "Now i feel my heart beating, I feel my heart underneath my skin.." A hyperbole is used to exaggerate his current emotions, by letting go and listening to 'her'. As the song continues, the singer, Chris Martin is consistently persuaded to enjoy the moment, as if he were "alive again." In my opinion, I believe the presence of this female is symbolic of living life to the fullest extent, positively influencing every person she affects, including the man in the lyrics, Chris Martin. Towards the end of "Adventure of a Lifetime," Martin seems to become attached to her, stating, "If we've only got this life, then this adventure is more than I, wanna' share it with you..." It's like he's finally found someone that makes him feel alive again, and doesn't want to let go of her, whether she's real or not. But overall, the style and sounds of this song are very uplifting, and ultimately provide a message to cherish and enjoy life, treating every day like you're alive again. |
