From my point of view, this song is about someone who has a feeling of being imprisoned. They are trying to get their own personal space because it is their “house,” but they continue to live their life in misery. It begins with the artist opening up to a problem of hers. She acknowledges that she needs to escape from her problems. The first line states, “I feel you in these walls.” It emphasizes a feeling of fear coming closer, because of this, she receives a sense of shock and cannot see it coming. In the song, the singer explains that she needs a breath of air. She feels a deep sensation of regret “Guess it was all my fault I think I let you in.” This song could be interpreted into many different meanings. Some people may experience it as a mental illness, drug abuse, heartbreak, etc. Most of us, when we have to make a decision, usually never think it over. Due to this, we begin to realize the mistakes that we have made after a period of time of the decision. The chorus, “It’s my house and I think it’s time to get out,” gives a message that she is suffering. She uses the word, “house” to represent an idealism of her personal space. Home, for the majority of us, is a place to not be bothered. Towards the end, the artist repeats the line, “I’m not yours anymore.” It clarifies that she desires self-determination. The line provides an image of her discomfort and the battle between her and her situation. She becomes aware that she cannot continue to be controlled and fights for her freedom. |
