Viewing it as a love song (sad one tho) it's pretty simple... 1st verse is about how in his darkest of moments and when he is emmersed in the deepest of thoughts, there's this one thing that lure's him to go out of his way.....(those eyes) and he finds it pointless to stay where he is and starts pursuing those eyes (Maybe some loved one,maybe someone who died) 2nd verse : He thinks it'll be stupid to stop for anything now ..... 3rd verse : This is where the notion of those eyes being of someone who is dead (and who was obviously loved by the speaker) really kicks inn... cuz those eyes are luring him to death he is falling off, he is leaving ( just like those eyes when they had the chance)..... & Now he is drowning he is getting eaten by the worms.... He is fading away, he is reaching the bottom & He's gonna escape....hopefully reaching those eyes |

This song featured in Twilight saga-New moon & it really made sense where the song was put in the movie....i don't remember exactly but it's right after edward leaves bella saying he won't come back and everyone fears the Cullen's and doubt's that all the murder's are the done by them and bella is about to commit suicide......now lyrics do make sense in bella's perspective ... 1st verse is about how everyone is saying cullens are wrong(voice's)and these voices are driving bella away from him... 2nd verse is about how much trust bella has on cullen and particularly edward (He can do no wrong in her eyes)..... The rest of the song is about the confusion that these two thoughts bring with them.....she is reckless,people saying she is getting better(as she is away from edward) but she doesn't feel any better, she can't trust what she is hearing (hearing damage) and insists that he can do no wrong.... Genius of thom yorke ! |

| While we can all relate to it in some way... I still believe there is something unusual here it's not about ben's girlfriend or recent crush what i think is this is most probably about ben's first crush while HE WAS JUST A KID and this WOMEN ( Mistress) used to visit his home or something like that It was this women who broke down the last code of innocence(Made him feel something like love) she is out of reach she is not always there that's why i think she is some visitor,acquaintance of a sort in his family, And there is a flaw in his heart as he tries to make her his own ( which he knows clearly is not possible thats why she is mistress he can't make a wife) . He wants to capture her diminishing returns and the best part he sees her with the eyes of a child (like a child, without much reasoning and sense about what they desire) and he knows that even though its all against the odds for him to live with her she will always continue to haunt him all his life.... Maybe thats why ben wrote/sang this after two breakups and divorce and i don't know if its true but this interpretation just makes this song even more devastating..! | |

| Contrary to everyone I believe bruise here is more metophorical than literal, perhaps the most simple and powerful interpretation of this song comes when you think of ben speaking to some he loves near mississipi river he says she is far sighted, she can't place trust on anyone or anything that she recognizes why ? SHE IS HEARTBROKEN OR CHEATED and this broken heart is the bruise actually so along the chit chat she tells ben about this and he feels her bruise is understated, again why ? Cuz she cant feel this( LOVE) Anymore.. and thats devastating... | |

| To all those thinking ben is just admitting that how he made fake promises and told her that he loves her but he doesn't actually i insist that you plz hear the album again cuz what follows tiny vessels is "transatlanticism" where he explains what happened after he left california how much he missed her... because the truth is he(boy's) dont realize love when they should and initially they pursue a girl in a way described in this song but now its too late and he keeps crooning in transatlaticism "I need you so much closer"... | |
