@[inpraiseoffolly:15862] Remember Richard was the most influenced by Syd, they were the ones who were connected the most MUSICALLY in the band. This is a Syd song written by Richard |

@[Rut:15861] I would agree best early Floyd but you forgot to say best early Floyd without Syd. That is the difference Syd with Floyd has maybe 5 or 6 songs better than this one, or at least right up there with it, but I agree with you a wonderful song |

@[Gasketfuse:15860] I have to comment on this I think this particular song more than any other by Floyd sounds like a Syd Barrett composition. Reminds me of early early Floyd like see Emily play or Arnold layne, just has that feel. I love Floyd but with the departure of Syd one has to admit that Floyd became more serious and somewhat more depressed really lyrically, Syd was playful and used imagery and nursery rhymes for the love of god! this song captures that playfulness that seemed to depart from the Floyd with Syd's departure. Just my opinion |

| Pink Floyd – Candy and a Currant Bun Lyrics

it is obvious (no pun intended to Syd) that this song is a sexual reference as well as a drug reference song, just hidden in candy and currant bun, Syd was very good at that, oh you want me to change things well let me keep the content and change to appease the record label, or society. Also I have heard it said that the first song to be played with the F*** word in it was The Who Who Are You? but I believe this song precedes that one, just not as much radio play as The Who song, just a tidbit of info there I could be wrong |

@[TANSD:15223] I agree with you I don't think Syd took anything lightly, especially his song writing. But yeah there is way more here than just nonsense rambling great song, just a stream of consciousness and words it has a sad beauty to it, just like most of his material |

@[naftalina:15222] the beatles and pink floyd recorded at the same time Floyd Piper, Beatles Pepper. I believe they were both influenced by one another the bands that is. they were in separate recording studios in the same session. Interesting Huh? to great albums recorded at the same time same place |

@[amandavenicio:14996] I see the reference to being rejected by Pink Floyd, but I don't know how it is so overlooked that he was rejected by a woman as well, remember Syd was the star of Floyd in 66 -67 then was virtually unknown in the 70's there are so many references to women in his music. I think Syd was hurt by a few other people in his life besides members of Floyd |

@[timothyreal:14994] yes you are correct I can't believe so many people do not see the reference to Eskimo Chains having a direct link to Iggy the Eskimo she affected him more than is mentioned |

@[Black:14993]&GreenAchilles I have to disagree with you here Eskimo chains is a clear reference to his girlfriend Iggy the Eskimo it could not be any clearer, not to him trying to slow himself down with drugs. Just letting you know, that particular line could not be any clearer what he is talking about |

@[bullfury19:14992] I could not agree with you more, I prefer Syd to the Floyd actually. And I love the Floyd but Syd has a different angle than the Floyd, much more personal if you will and he is sometimes even playful in his songs, but I really love the sad beauty to his songs. You can hear pain in his voice, as well as dare I say hope! I just love the guy's work |

@[WorkingClassLoser:14990] I don't feel the song is as cut and dry as just asking Pink Floyd members if he would be missed, I think there is a clear reference to Iggy the Eskimo (Syd's Girlfriend) he says only a person with Eskimo chain, clear reference to her! But I get what you are saying, but it goes beyond just a reference to Pink Floyd missing his role or missing him in the band, I think that he may have felt somewhat more abandoned by Iggy possibly than by the lads in Floyd. Remember Syd was the younger than the rest of Floyd, and I think it is overlooked that he was affected by a woman at some point, he also has the lyric in one of his songs that says She said a big band is far better than you (Here I Go) also a reference to how once out of the band he no longer had the girl as well, I think Syd also had abandonment issues, and not just the abandonment of his band, but also the people he was close with. |

I find it extremely difficult to ascertain what Syd meant in some of his songs, I know how I may interpret them but not how he interpreted the meaning or was looking to achieve for his listener. I read for Lucifer Sam this guy quoted as saying the song is about his girlfriend, it is not about his girlfriend, it is about his cats, but I would never want to give my opinion on what Syd was thinking only on my interpretation of it would I consider writing. Syd was just far beyond me in writing capacity but I do enjoy reading what others possibly believe the meaning to hold for them. I just feel unless you know for sure then like the Lucifer Sam guy maybe it would be best to keep to yourself when not 100% certain |
