My personal interpretation:
Children are often quick to make decisions with out thinking about consequences.To some degree this is analogous to humans being children of mother nature. The very essence of life. He's literally saying we should control our self and take only what we need from nature. Respect the natural world and be conscious about our decisions. Allow future generations the opportunity to experience life and its beauty.
I also feel that I feel he's reflecting on marijuana/altering your consciousness to a certain degree:"A family of trees". The plant is mother natures gift. Despite its beauty we should only take what we need and control ourselves. I personally feel a lot of younger adults/teenagers start smoking marijuana and they sort of begin to "ride the wave" through life which may not always be such a good decision at that age. |

This is obviously open to some interpretation but I feel like Steve is reminiscing about his life. Suddenly he's in the fast lane to sucess but has to leave behind the people he loves. He's literally and figurativly on a plane, a testiment to his sucess, and living the high-life of a rockstar. |
