My interpertation is Rivers was always a straight guy who struggled socialising. Even more so with women up into at least the album Make Believe(2005) see lyrics for Perfect Situation. Giving single word answers isn't because he is bored, or not intrested it's because he was or is introverted/shy or just at the time strugged socialising. The verse where the girl is talking to him, we don't hear what he replies back to. However we hear oh no it go it gone bye bye. Girl gets the wrong signal probably by Rivers acting awkward and giiving one worded answers. The girl see's this as him being disintrested and so goes off with the outgoing extroverted guy we heard before. When the reality is he was never disintrested he just couldn't put his own thoughts into words. The sweater represents who his personality is. Yeah he's a bit of a dork (see his appereance in the video) If you want to destory his own personaility i.e you want to fundamentailly change who he has accepted he is then he'll offer you that thread and he'll walk away. - to me this section is a throw back to peer pressure. I.E truely being yourself not faking your own self just to be accepted and valued as a person or being a good prospect of a partner/mate. |
