Radiohead – A Punchup at a Wedding (No No No No No No No No) Lyrics 9 years ago
While I am normally loathe to assign political themes to Radiohead's lyrics, seeing as though this is from Hail to the Thief I think it's appropriate here; this song is a metaphor for the state of the world. The lyrics use an extended metaphor where the diplomatic and political dysfunction of the time is being portrayed as a perfectionist couple reacting to the nasty behavior of their family and the "shredding" of their big day. Particularly it could be a satire of the Bush administration's petulant reactions to those questioning the Iraq war and how the French were disrupting their carefully assembled misguided coalition. There's also an implied dynamic between the couple where they blame each other for the fact that their carefully laid (wedding) plans were thrown out of harmony. Perhaps this is an allusion the tension between the US and the UK during this time. Anyways this is just a theory that I find interesting :)

Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics 9 years ago
I interpret this as a story of sorts.

A person who wants keep documentation of their carries a video recorder with them wherever they are. They take videos of their families and friends at weddings, graduations, birthday parties, and on trips. They keep these memories for their whole life and then suddenly they die unexpectedly. Everyone is devastated and grasps for meaning in this tragedy, and they search through their loved one's personal belongings, finding the old tapes. When they play them they are rejoined with the deceased, remembering all of those times together. Finally when they play the last tape they realize that it is a pre-recorded goodbye, because the deceased was aware that they will not live forever and that the circumstances of their death may not allow them to say goodbye to everyone. This is what I hear in this song.

Radiohead – Treefingers Lyrics 9 years ago
@[kazenostrider:14408] Oh my god yes, I think you nailed it. This reminds me of something I had heard about the cover for the album, that it depicted a "supernatural landscape." It really fills me a sense of dread and, simultaneously, awe. When I tripped in the forest I felt like I had felt when I was a child, that all of life was really one giant organism that I was finally rejoining. It was almost zen-like but in a dissonant and chilling way, like my soul had been ripped from my body and I was assimilated into the soul of the forest.
