1.Dear lie still along my old web People use the word dear to address someone they care about.Web can be seen as a trap or something old. 2.Cursed by your dust filled hymn (dust)Played out(some old) hynm/song (song, anthem, poem,or praise usually more on the religious side) (dust) can also be seen as empty. Empty hymn. Empty~ meaningless/with out value Line 1 and 2 can be see/interpreted in two ways. One of them can be religious and the other one is someone saying something meaningless over and over again(some old song) 3.Dear lie still along my old web 4.Cursed by your dust filled hymn Line 1-4 ( literal meaning) It’s saying that the person is lying against an old web filled with dust . which can be interpreted as someone lying against/ or retaining something old or left behind almost forgotten. The words they use are almost haunting. 5. Water spills down o'er the glass, left always full O're~Over (bad luck) metaphor for someone with a lot of problem that never seem to go away until one day it's just too much. 6. There's a dew under the bed Drop (problem,complication or difficulty) had fallen on to the floor (mostlikely from the full glass of water in line 5) 7. Where sweat and dreams hath tread (sweat and dreams can be related to nightmares or it can simply mean dreams you have work hard for) Hath = have (3rd person) Tread mean be multiple things( to walk on, over, or along; to press along press beneath the feet: trample or it can mean to oppress something) Line 7 can mean two different things One being Where Nightmares have walk on. The other meaning could be Where hard work and dreams have (been) trample(d) over 8. Your feet would touch the floor (Ground) When someone's feet touch the ground it usually mean that someone has a realistic understanding of their own ideas, actions, and decisions Would= desire,wise, want, or will. 9. Drift around like boards Drift around~moving along slowing, moving with the flow 8 and 9 are contrasting each other.It's almost giving the person a choice/or telling the person they have a choice. (This is fully my opinion/inference which might be wrong, in other words you can ignore it) You can come to your senses or drift around like a boat (zombie): not knowing or being aware of what you’re doing/thinking, or simply not caring. Lines 8 and 9 can also be more literal. You could/would come to a realistic understanding but you will drift around like a boat (not care or be aware) 10. Hang you like a lullaby Lullabies are meant to make people go to sleep they are usually soft and gentle Comparing hanging someone with a lullaby. When you hang someone the way they die is slow, they slowly drift away from life (slowly fall asleep to their death). I felt like this was more of a translation of the song instead of a meaning. These were my thought when I read the lyrics.I know my grammar and spelling is not the best. Hopefully this is some what in the right direction and not totally of.lol. and if its way of its ok . |
