Five for Fighting – The Riddle Lyrics | 5 years ago |
I don't get how people who like the song don't understand it. I find the lyrics very deep and meaningful so much so that it makes me cry. It is about a father and his child but it's also about that father's father before he died it's about you and I in this big old world and then at the end when he says who am I is all you need. I have many more thoughts about it but the fact of the matter is we all think we're small in this world but we are in this world and in the end we're all we've got and that's a pretty big thing. |

@[zeratul66:28997] Close. Here's what Ben Burnley said: the yrics were inspired by the movie 28 Days Later, where a rage hormone can be transmitted like AIDS and is set loose in England. The music was originally a little faster tempo and was played as a live song called "Always." >> |
Marvin Gaye – What's Going On Lyrics | 6 years ago |
@[TheSyndicate88:25990] Actually the song is about social injustice and is consciously aware of the atrocities of Vietnam. The party at the beginning is a celebration of the homecoming of Marvin's brother from the war and Marvin found him "different." Yeah, PTSD |

@[zakinbristol:25984] Such a meaningful, timeless song. Gordy has been regretting it for a long time... |
Marvin Gaye – What's Going On Lyrics | 6 years ago |
This song's lyrics are as poignant, if not more so, today as they were during the Vietnam War. Marvin wrote this song after his brother returned from Vietnam..."different." I think we'd call that PTSD today. And although the US is not engaging in a war such as that useless one, it is fighting within itself. If only people, especially those in uniform such as policeman, could take these lyrics to heart NOW: "Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality Talk to me, so you can see Oh, what's going on What's going on Yeah, what's going on Ah, what's going on" and "Oh, but who are they to judge us Simply 'cause our hair is long Oh, you know we've got to find a way To bring some understanding here today" AND "Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality C'mon talk to me So you can see What's going on Yeah, what's going on Tell me what's going on I'll tell you what's going on" Mind you, every lyric line in the song is as powerful as those above, that's just a sample. If only we could HEAR what it's saying. Don't judge, talk to me to see what's up and I'll tell you. If we'd all just LISTEN. |
