This song is a pop-culture praise-and-worship song to God. Go watch the video on youtube... it takes place in a church and he's wearing a Jesus shirt. I've become amused = there's so much to see and do in this world. It all takes our focus off our creator. I've become blind = I'm not even aware how distracted I've become. Pathetic me, I long to be you = I want to be like Christ but I am so very VERY far off from this. The female vocalist (Cathy) is his authentic memory trying to remind him... and the chorus, "whatever it is I do, I try to think about you" = I'm trying to honor you (God) in every action, but it's so freakin hard because my mind... my reason... are built on sandcastles... my questing for the why, my desire to know, creates distance between us. He regrets it. He's sorry for it. And he's feeling so guilty about it that Jesus's "infinite sympathy" feels lost to him. The conundrum of living IN the World but not being OF the world... one that every Christ-follower faces. And all of us fail. He's basically crying out to his Godly master saying, "I'm trying to serve you. I'm trying to honor you. Please be patient with me. Be merciful with me." RIP, Prince Be. |
