Amos Lee – Spirit Lyrics 8 years ago
Every time I listen to Amos Lee’s SPIRIT Album I can’t help but pause, as I am drenched in downpour of awe at the direct parallel and profound study of Quiet Riot's 1999 album, ALIVE AND WELL. It's a hail to the rage for the good life, and a better tribute album to Quiet Riot is yet to be seen, (in my opinion.) Compare for yourself the call and response, high-five, lyrical shout out to emperors of the passionate life. It's as if ALIVE AND WELL was playing on repeat throughout the entire composition of the SPIRIT album.

4. Lost Child / The Wild And The Young

10. Hurt Me / Mama We’re All Crazee Now
11. Vaporize / Mental Health (Bang Your Head)

Amos Lee – Better Days Lyrics 8 years ago
This is song about a couple who has been married a long time.
Contemplating cheating and finding solid reasons to back it up.

Married life looks pretty grim in verse 1.

The darkness has always been,
The world was born into a blanket of sin,
When all the faith's been gone,
Still we found a reason to carry on,

In the 1st chorus, married life has a lot of worry, and they are "caught" trapped going round and round - no fun. At bedtime they think about the couple they were when they were younger, and they can carry on.

Amos Lee – Lullaby Lyrics 8 years ago
The singer is commenting on the treatment he received by a woman who screamed at him, when he was just trying to get to know her. Yelled at him like he was a murderer. He was confused "What was in her mind about me, to lose it and yell at me like that? Did I really deserve that? You must be confusing me with another type of person..."

I guess it started when I was a teen (it's natural)

And my parents will never know their little boy is such a fiend (parents are embarrassed discussing the facts of life)

I guess sometimes it works out, but you never know what it means
([insert]: freaking out and screaming)

Cause a lullaby don't always turn to a dream
(more freaking out and screaming)

Naw, a lullaby don't always turn to a dream
(confusion about the screaming reaction: as it completely kills the romance)

Amos Lee – Colors Lyrics 9 years ago
I could be wrong, but it seems pretty straight forward to me.
A guy who's not married and doesn't have any kids is living with a woman who is going out of town for the Christmas holiday. The night before she goes away they go to the circus, or a bar where he proceeds to get caught up in the hoopla and spills red wine, or blood gets on it because a bar fight breaks out. She's really into fashion, and because the dress is sexy, it looks like it's a summertime dress. (Sometimes women wear dresses that are too thin for winter weather, they can put on their coat, if they get cold.)

While she is away he washes her clothes, it's not the first time he has attempted to do the laundry when she goes out of town, and he thinks bleach will get the wine out of her fancy dress. She was planning on wearing it to the New Year's Day Parade(party?). Now she can't go out on New Year's, the biggest fashion night of the year. The amount of money she spends on clothes bothers him as one of her faults. He thinks it should be locked up in a vault.

Because of her love of dresses and the amount of money she spends on them, the ruin of the colors makes her cry to her mother. It's upsetting. He's sorry he got caught up in the circus, he's sorry he tried doing the laundry. Nothing is going to help the colors which have faded. He's just got to try harder not to let it happen again.

I can relate. This sort of thing happened to me. I love fashion. We are what we wear. I cried. I didn't have time to find another dress to wear, but we got through it, eventually.
