I don't believe this song has anything to do with a relationship but rather someone's inner peace and happiness. It seems like nostalgia comes from thoughts of better times and longing for them again but accepting a state of complacency (hardest part of growing up is the realization that adulthood isn't full of back-to-back jovial moments and is rather pretty tough). I could be wrong and it could all be about loss of love though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

I think this song is about trying to move on with someone new but being stuck on someone from their past. But, acknowledging the past will only further the void that's been created. This could just be about stagnant love, but it seems more painful than that and riddled with regret and a desire to have what's no longer attainable. |
