He was insecure and felt like she was already cheating on him. In the first verse, using the word 'lonelily' suggests how he was feeling and how he was struggling her being distant. this is backed by him saying 'I felt you were leaving me' He wants attention and someone to care about him whilst trying to get a reaction out of her. He thought she wouldn't care if he was with someone else because she wouldn't be at home anyway. Saying 'neither of us want to be alone' suggests they could have been together for a while and neither of them want to end it because of the relationship they had built together even if it is toxic. The verses for each person suggest the similarity in their situations, both feeling lonely and wanting someone to give them attention because they were bored of each other. However when she 'took him all the way through your bed.' he finally feels the pain from it. I don't think he wanted to cheat on her, he genuinely loved her but was immature and every time just wanted to get one back at her until she took it too far. He is still trying to justify her actions, trying to forgive and forget because he is still to afraid to address the problem. He wants to move on but still can't. Him saying 'you're coming home' suggests after she cheats on him she comes home and pretends everything is okay because she still doesn't want to be alone keeping them in the vicious cycle they won't break until they are brave enough to face it.

I believe that his song is used to express the power of music. It may even be based on Billy Joel's on experiences. In some ways the the song is depressing, realising that he is talking about all the people who are struggling in life, even that of the businessman or student. Life is hard for everyone no matter who you are and everyone struggles in their own way. Billy 'helps them to forget about life for a while.' Representing the power that music can have on people even for the short while that he would play. However the song isn't just about making people happier. I also believe it is about being observant. Billy Joel noticed each person is struggling and the importance that you can have on them. 'Bill I believe this is killing me' Is not a strong reference to suicide but yet it still could be. People can easily brush things of not understanding the extremity. Perhaps he wanted to express that everyone can hurt and it takes that one song, that one joke or that one drink to help save someone for a while.

This song is about someone who is madly in love, uncontrollably. Despite this, the other person doesn't feel the same and is simply incapable. They are starting to realise this and they know all they can do is accept it because there is no use in fighting it. They don't want the other person to talk or move they just want to cherish the moment to remember them by, remember what it felt like to hold them because they know they will never get the chance to again. They know that love can't be forced because it wouldn't be fair on either of them. The morning will to and they just need until then to accept that it is over.

They remember when they were their age and experienced the same things they did and is comparing both of their lives. They are saying that they've stopped questioning things and have learnt to accept things and that they are singing and voicing opinion because it is all they have taught themselves. They are then asking what is important to them and what they are good at and they should follow it.

This song is about someone who is ending a relationship with someone where the love has been lost. The person can remember the happiness they once felt, but that is no longer relevant, it can not be rekindled. The person gave them everything they wanted but it was built up by promises that could not be kept. They will never forget the person and will hold fond memories but no more can be made. Everything they used to feel and say to the person has now stopped being honest and from the heart, they just said it because they felt like they had to and could no longer maintain the lie to themselves that it would work. They are explaining that talking about their past is unnecessary because it won't change anything. They have been thinking about this person before but it doesn't feel the same and they know that it is over. In time they see them again and realise that the 'truth got lost' and they never explained the truth to the person and they wish they could rewind to be honest to them about why it ended but, its too late, it no longer matters to either of them. They are saying that what happened was inevitable, and although they tried it was unfixable.

This song is about a failing relationship, and after the arguing the other person has cheated. The train represents the relationship and how they can never go back to how they were (back on track). They were being lied to and couldn't take it anymore but felt naive for not seeing it coming because they are still young, but feel that the situation has matured them. They are sad that the other person is alone because they still care about the other person but can never be forgiven by them or God. They see love as just a battle and it will only end in tears.The person feels so alone and says 'but here's to you' sarcastically basically saying well done for ruining everything.

In this song they contradict themselves frequently, it is used to represent life is uncertain, anything can happen. I think in all this is about a close friend or family member dying and how they are uncertain of why the world would do this to them. They are saying maybe there is no god because they think if there was they would have kept the person alive. They are trying to carry their friends dream and making their life worth while in memory of them because otherwise they feel like they have gone for nothing. They are referring to their friend when they say 'maybe die young' and themselves with 'live everyday like its your last day under the sun' They want to make the most of what they have left.

This song is about someone who feels like they are wasting their life, time is moving so quickly that they have lost control and feel as if life is losing its meaning. They want to make the most of what they have left and are realising they have to let go of what they have to do so. They are mocking the world with the sentence 'when your life has lost its meaning, maybe you need a little time' but they know that that is just an excuse to let time pass you and doesn't want to let it happen to them.

The sentence 'the world keeps spinning' is repeated to show that life goes on and that nothing really matters so they must face their problems. They blame themselves for how they feel

this song is about someone who has recently come out of a serious relationship, they are aware of the face they don't want anything serious, they just want to use it to take their mind of the person they once loved. When they say 'it feels like the sun, the sun' they are explaining that it reminds them of their previous relationship but not enough to last. It represents the person being reckless and wanting to enjoy themselves and not being afraid of the consequences. They are both aware it won't work but like it because they are making the most of their time together and then splitting ways to find a new path. I think the song uses great contrast to represent the controversy in their heart.

This song is about someone who has been suddenly heartbroken and has never felt it before. They are struggling to understand how if they loved them why would they leave? It represents the naivety of the person and how they don't understand how they could just be left, when sometimes people falling out of love is inevitable. They think after this all they need is to find someone else, they want to become reckless to try and make them feel better about themselves even though they know they won't find someone as good as the previous person. They don't want them to go because they like they had changed and become better from that person and doesn't want to lose that. I think this song is interpreting the point of view of someone who is in a relationship that they thought was perfect but it had changed, 'one day its here and then its gone' represents how the person love for the other was once there, but is no longer and they need to face. The person is too afraid to end things because of what it used to be. It is trying to say you don't need to feel alone and that they they don't need to feel shy to get any help because they shouldn't waste time being with the person they aren't meant to be with.
