This is about Stuart's father who worked on ships and was away during much of his youth. It tells me that he remembered well the fear he had once he realized that he may not come back. |

This song is about the clearances of Scotland when the prople left their rural homes to drive the industrialization specifically in the town of Corby, Northamptonshire, England. It was during the industrial revolution known as little Scotland because of all the Scots who came to work the steel mills there. But within less than a generation the jobs were leaving and the displaced Scots were now away from their home without the jobs they left Scotland to take. Thus the lost potential. |

| Big Country – Red Fox Lyrics

This song is another historical song for Stuart. It is based on the Appin Murder of Colin Roy Campbell of Glenure on On 14 May 1752.
The song goes tells of the murderer waiting until the red fox(Colin Campbell) road passed, and then he attacked alluding to Campbell being shot in the back. Then it goes on to explain the aftermath in which James Stewart was tried and executed for the murder that it was clear he did not commit.
It also, in saying I believe in what was done, gives reason for the murder in the clearances of the Stewarts off their hereditary land by the Government forces led by the Campbells. Thus the moniker Red Fox in that Colin Campbell was doing sneaky dirty work for the red coated government forces. |

| The Smiths – Cemetry Gates Lyrics

One of the greatest things about songs is there is the intended meaning by the artist, and then there's the myriad of individual interpretations my the audience. I have always pictured Moz walking through a cemetery reeling off famous quotes based around the names they find, and having a contest to see who could amass the better list of quotes. Doesn't even matter that Keats is buried in Rome, Yeats in Ireland, and Wilde in Paris (which is interesting considering none of them were buried in England). What matters is a playful one upsmanship game of literary quotes in a cemetery on a dreaded sunny day. |

She said on an interview that much of the album is aimed at the people trying to take her music away from her. So, I'm guessing that the comments are towards people who have made comments about her music along the lines of not liking the new stuff. In other words, fine just move on.
Me, I love all the music she puts out. So creative and powerfully emotionally charged. |

| The Smiths – Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others Lyrics

I get the comment that comparing girls endowments is common in Britain, but I think that is just the surface read on the song.
To me Moz is using this to talk about how everywhere people are always comparing themselves to others. The specific line some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers would seem to be a clear indication of an indictment on the British hereditary class system. In this case the term bigger means higher up the social latter and better than others. Throughout history everyone is always jockeying to be "bigger" than others. I also think in this song girls is referring to all people in a general way, not just to women. |

I heard about him saying this is for interviews, but I also heard him say that concerts are to him like an interview. Always thought this was about all the different characters and ways he tells stories at the shows. I'll give them more and more to me seems to be saying how much he is putting into all the internal characters the songs bring out in him during performances. |
