It's about the struggle of growth and bettering yourself as well as moving out of the victim role in life. He's realizing that he's not a broken person. A sort of personal epiphany. Reflecting on the past and all that's been before he's starting to see his part in it.
The lyrics point that he realizes he's not broke and that change is hard. Please tell me that I'm broke, it's much easier that way. The chorus shows the struggle, moving back into the victim role, self absorption, low life, low esteem, multiple attempts at bettering oneself and still falling repeatedly. Leave self pity out, "after it all I'm still just a low life" iit's really hard to keep fighting the good fight but it's worth it. The song to me represents the frustration of the struggle |

I think it's about the crucifixion of Jesus from Jesus' perspective. One thing that throws me off is the line "Jesus and his family are two things he's lost"
But speaking on the mountain top would be his prayer asking God to remove the burden of suffering (the crucifixion) for the sins of people. "His bidding was all I could do"
Then after the work has been done he he cry's out, Now show me heaven or kingdom come. |
