My own opinion is that it's more likely to be about an earlier relationship and not about Chauntelle who, like Adam, was in her mid-twenties when they got engaged then split up. The line "for Christ's sakes we're just kids" suggests to me a teenage couple. As you mentioned, the pain in his voice does sound very real so I get the feeling this song is personal to him, but that's just conjecture: it could be fictional. | |
