I can always relate to this song Back Home Again. I remember very clearly when I had lived in Olathe (Kansas) I was on my way to work and I was listening to this song and I nearly cried because in my heart I was longing for my hometown of Osawatomie. Since I had returned to my hometown that song had taken on a special meaning to me. This song will always have a special place in my heart. |

It was about 20 years ago when I had lived in Kansas City Kansas and one day I was at a store at the intersection of Antioch and Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee Mission Kansas. If I remember correctly it was the Venture Store and I don't even remember why I was there but I was there and I heard this song for the very first time over the PA system. It greatly moved me because I fell in love with this song because I can still relate to it. I was living in the city at that time and I have never fit into the environment of the city life. I never knew what the name of the song was until I had gotten Don McLean's Greatest Hits and that song was included in it. I had written a reflection about the song. My favorite quote in the song is: I'm city born but I love the country life. I can personally relate to that quote because I was born in Olathe and grew up in the small town environment. The city life, to me, was like the castles that are mentioned in the song. Every chance I got I would spend nearly every weekend(weather permitting) in the Osawatomie-Paola area just to refresh and renew myself because I have never gotten used to the city life. Since I had returned to Osawatomie in 2001 I have made trips to the city more like day trips but a lot of the times I would avoid going to the city unless I absolutely have to. |
