A song about "getting by" -- a reflection on one's own actions and hard work and how sometimes we don't consider the consequences when we think we are doing it just to get by. The interpretations can run deep because it seems that there is no guilt or culpability in the lyrics. Talib is simply stating what this world is like -- suggesting that we all struggle and that's okay. At the same time he finds an impactive way to state that your actions make a difference: "Even when the condition is critical, when the livin is miserable Your position is pivotal, I ain't bullshittin you" Implying that, even in the worst and most basic of situations, the way we get by makes an important difference in the way the rest of us get by. |
