So I'm gonna be an obsessive nerd I always am and actually analyze the whole song line (or couple of lines) by line. "I'm the son of rage and love" The speaker has two parts in him- rage and love. They seem to be opposites, so that kind of explains his conflicted personality, combing rage and love. "The Jesus of Suburbia" Jesus Christ was basically this guy who decided to change the way people viewed themselves and each other. He wanted to be different. So our main character is sort of a "rebel" of the so-called suburbia- a little white-picket-fence town in the middle of nowhere. "The bible of none of the above" Refers to the "above" song, American idiot, which explains the stupidity of the age and American people. The speaker doesn't believe in all of that. "On a steady diet of Soda Pop and Ritalin" Basically bad, unhealthy lifestyle. "No one ever died for my Sins in hell As far as I can tell At least the ones that I got away with" No one except for him was blamed for his own "sins", but then he adds "at least the ones i got away with" and that means that he, being a rebel and all that, is kinda sneaky and doesn't actually confront society- he just pretends he does. "And there's nothing wrong with me This is how I'm supposed to be" he is evidently not an emotionally healthy and stable person. but that's the way everyone else is- there is nothing wrong with him, it's the society. "In a land of make believe That don't believe in me" Even though people lie and make up things all the time and actually believe in them, they don't believe in the speaker- or any of the "broken" kids like him. "Get my television fix Sitting on my crucifix" he spends his days tortured- crucifix- but doesn't do anything about it, just watches TV "The living room in my private womb" He hides from reality in a "safe place" "While the Moms and Brad's are away To fall in love and fall in debt To alcohol and cigarettes" his family leads bad lives as well, and the speaker is bitter about them leaving him all alone. "And Mary Jane To keep me insane Doing someone else's cocaine" so he finds his escape in drugs "At the center of the earth In the parking lot" for many people the parking lot is the center- even though it's nowhere- because it has all anyone needs. "The motto was just a lie It says home is where your heart is But what a shame Cause everyone's heart Doesn't beat the same It's beating out of time" basically it's saying that everyone wants something different and they can't all live together in peace and the speaker thought they could, but it turns out to be "just a lie" so he basically becomes more cynical "City of the dead At the end of another lost highway Signs misleading to nowhere" People living in the town are dead inside, because they've got no purpose inside them. The signs don't lead anywhere and the people get lost. "City of the damned Lost children with dirty faces today No one really seems to care" People there are damned to their lives of constant pain and purposelessness. they don't care about anything, even other people who are hurting. "I read the graffiti In the bathroom stall Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall" The speaker tries to find a purpose, so he looks for it everywhere - even in a bathroom stall. "holy scriptures" are basically something that he can follow without questioning "And so it seemed to confess It didn't say much But it only confirmed that The center of the earth Is the end of the world And I could really care less" He didn't find any purpose, so he stopped caring - dead inside like everyone else. "I don't care if you don't I don't care if you don't I don't care if you don't care I don't care" he stopped caring about other people, he stopped fighting against conformity. but then he realized that it doesn't matter if anyone else cares- what matters is that he does. "Everyone's so full of shit Born and raised by hypocrites" basically straightforward saying that everyone pretends they're "good" but they aren't "Hearts recycled but never saved From the cradle to the grave" people just keep going on and on without stopping and trying to find anything in their lives, they just keep going with the same, recycled "heart" "We are the kids of war and peace From Anaheim to the Middle East" again, "rage and love" conflicting people try to find their identity "We are the stories and disciples of The Jesus of suburbia" they are like him - rebellious, different and trying to stop the hypocrisy in people's minds "Land of make believe And it don't believe in me Land of make believe And I don't believe And I don't care!" he finally understands that the only thing that matters is whether he believes in himself, and not whether others believe in him. "Dearly beloved are you listening? I can't remember a word that you were saying" they switch from the Jesus of Suburbia theme to a life of just a regular person. He wants someone to listen, but he doesn't listen himself - hypocrite "Are we demented or am I disturbed? The space that's in between insane and insecure" is it just me or is there something wrong with all of us? he asks himself - he finally begins to understand the horror of his own life "Oh therapy, can you please fill the void? Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed" he is empty and he tries to fix it with therapy. it doesn't work, but he pretends it does. "Nobody's perfect and I stand accused For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse" he ended up saying everything that he thought about the whole mess people like him called life. but since he couldn't say it "nicer" he is ow accused of being bad "To live, and not to breathe Is to die, in tragedy" back to Jesus of Suburbia - to live but not actually be alive is sad - that's what he says to everyone, these are his "preaches" "To run, to run away To find, what you believe" one has to leave their comfort zone and find a purpose "And I leave behind This hurricane of fucking lies" the Jesus of Suburbia gave up on people. he thinks they can't be saved so he leaves "I lost my faith to this This town that don't exist" he lost so much to try and save people in this little town, but ultimately, it doesn't matter. "So I run, I run away To the lights of masochists" so he runs from his purpose, hurting himself (suicidal, maybe?) "And I, walked this line A million and one fucking times But not this time" he tried to save people's souls so much and for so long, but this time he gives up on them "I don't feel any shame I wont apologize When there ain't nowhere you can go" he knows that he''s done his job. he doesn't feel like he could've tried harder, he thinks it's people's responsibility to save themselves now "Running away from pain When you've been victimized" ok ok so he became victimized, he is expected to hurt for everyone else, like the actual Jesus Christ, he hurts for the sins of everyone else and people just accepted that. it somehow feels wrong to refuse the pain, but really it isn't because you owe nothing to anyone. that's why the Jesus of Suburbia runs away. he doesn't want to hurt for others anymore. "Tales from another broken home" that means that Jesus of Suburbia is not the only one. In every town, every city, there is someone who tries to save people, to make them understand how meaningless their lives are. these "Jesuses" are broken, because they all come from the same bad lives. "Oh you're leaving You're leaving You're leaving Are you leaving home?" Jesus of Subunia gives up and leaves. So basically what i'm trying to say is- Part 1: jesus of Suburbia is a confused teenager, who has a bad home life and conflicting personality. Nobody believes in him- he is not perfect, but he wants to change things. Part 2: he tries to find a purpose in his life, but realizes that he has to make his own. also, the town is explored- everyone is dead inside without a purpose. he doesn't want to be like that Part 3: Jesus of Suburbia is not alone. The other kids like him listen to him and they all criticize the modern society. they want to change the hypocritical life of everyone else. part 4: a normal guy realizes that his life is meaningless. he tries to pretend that everything is ok, but he ends up rebelling and being ostracized Part 5: Jesus of Suburbia continues to try and save people, but he gives up and realizes that people have to save themselves. he leaves the town to find a new life. |

| Panic! at the Disco – She Had The World Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| I feel like the song is about a guy and a girl. She loves him more than anyone else, forgetting everything. She knows he doesn't love her, so she has low self-esteem and is unhappy. He knows how amazing she is, he sees that she "has the world" but he just doesn't love her. It's a sad relationship... | |
