| I have a different outlook on this song. To me I take this beautiful song personal because I can relate to it. I had a hard break up awhile back and I couldn't find a girl worth the risk of getting my heart broken over again. And I finally found one who is so worth the risk but she is in a relationship. I've fallen for her hard and fell in love with her but I respected that she had a bf. So my secret was being in love with her and I longed for her every moment. So basically I'm asking "how do I get you alone?" but i respect her and that shes in a relationship so I cant tell her anything and it chills me to the bone that she might never be alone again. | |

This is my favorite song. It is crazy how accurately it compares to a point in my life. I’ll try to keep it brief. This song is about a man who loved a woman more than life itself. He dedicated three years of his life for this woman and it ended so suddenly and unexpectedly that it felt like a dream to him (“This can’t be happening, I must be dreaming”). At times he would want to leave her (“When all I ever wanted was to get away from you”), but now that it’s possible it becomes impossible for him because he wants nothing but to be with her (“But now the possible’s impossible and I can’t refuse”). He knows that their relationship is over and in the past, so he drinks in honor of all of the dreams he had planned on the rest of their life together and to all of the lucky ones (people who found their true love) and to the girl that tore his heart apart. He is still in love with her and wants the best for her but he knows she isn’t good for him (“Our book was overrated”, “Now we all fall for the bad ones They’ll just break us cause we’re so young, dumb, and vulnerable). He believed that they could overcome every obstacle after all they had been through but that she couldn’t make it work anymore. “I put your picture in a frame to stand at the side of my bed So whenever I get sad I can stare at your face Not overplayed that I won’t forget When all I remember is talking is cheap and your lies were expensive And God only knows when I’ll come to my senses Now I can’t breathe at all (now I can’t breathe at all)” In the lyrics above, he indicates that he will never forget all of the pain she had caused him. He keeps her picture as a reminder of how her words were meaningless and were just words. Her lies of truly loving him had cost him a lot of time and suffering. His heart is broke and will need time to recover and learn to trust again but he still loves her and wants her. He only knows that God knows how long it will be until he can love again. He loses his breathe thinking about her and how much pain she caused. In short, she wanted out of what he thought was a thriving relationship. She had told him things that deceived him into thinking that she was happy and the truth comes out when she tells him what she really is feeling and it crushes him and makes him vulnerable and untrusting. He knows he is better off without her but his heart still needs more time to mend. |
