David Olney – Barrymore Remembers Lyrics 9 years ago
Quoted from "The Songs of David Olney": "Is this really John Barrymore or just someone who thinks he's John Barrymore?" (Olney 1)

The point is that, no matter who he is, a man is at a bar talking about his glory days that won't come again.

David Olney – 1917 Lyrics 9 years ago
"1917" is the story of a French prostitute in the year of the song's title, sung from her perspective. She is paid to have sex with a soldier and she seems to fall in love with him briefly. It's probable that he'll die the next day and it's implied that he does, and the song ends with the idea that more soldiers will come in order to heal their pain from war.
