I'm convinced about this one, here it goes: It's a song about Kundalini rising on your back. Just like her other good song "Shake it off". It is happiness, but it is not "nice", it comes precisely like a "train on a track", it has been described like a train many times (another example is the song "I'm on fire" by Bruce Springsteen) "Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back" This is precisely what happens when it comes, first thing: it paralyses you, second thing: after is here, there's no turning back, it will be a big part of your life. "She killed it with kisses and from it she fled With every bubble she sank with a drink And washed it away down the kitchen sink" Possibly referring to her lifestyle BEFORE it hit her with full force, on the spine. She had glimpses of the truth, but wasn't prepared to give up the things she needed to give up in order to have it, it was scary so she ran away from it, hiding in meaningless relationships, wasting her energy with sex (killed it with kisses) and drowning her sorrows in alcohol. "With every bubble she sank with a drink" A very common phenomenon is to experience bubbles of gas or light, anyway, bubbles rising from the bottom of you to the top. The bubbles rise, but she tries to sink, she doesn't want to surrender. "Leave all your love and your longing behind you Can't carry it with you if you want to survive" Now, starts the apocalyptic imagery. It's not a coincidence, since Jesus in many ways was also talking about kundalini phenomenon that comes together with the coming of the kingdom of God inside (and outside too). He used to say that we needed to be loyal to the kingdom above everything else, that we should love him more than any members of our family. And when the day finally comes we should flee and not look behind, just like Lot's wife: "16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; 17 let him who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house; 18 and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle." You really have to surrender to the process and let everything that stands in the way behind. "The dog days are coming, the horses are coming so you better run" Dog days are hard days, horses are strong, vigorous and run really fast. Now it's kind of ambiguous, because the horses bring a new phase of fortune, but also they are stronger than you, they might trample you, so you better run. So, it's good, but it's also adrenaline-filled. It makes sense when we realize that though situations in which the adrenals are activated can stir the kundalini. In those survival-situations, it gives us energy. "Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back" It hits like a train on a track and like a bullet in the BACK. It's definitely Kundalini. "Struck from a great height By someone who should know better than that" That's it, it's like someone infinitely more powerful than yourself had just struck you. |

| @vinnícius Oh, I forgot to mention about the "we will recognize each other and see ourselves for the first time the way we really are" as you can see this part is not in the bible verses mentioned above. I see as either one of these options: the episode struck him as an insight into his true nature (protecting the store even if it means killing someone) or maybe, and this was my first impression, the raging burglar version of the innocent person who entered the store is seen as the true self of this person (for the hallucination is seen as a revelation) thus explaining why he would do it again. | |

May I differ? Joel Chapter 2, verse 28 "And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions" Acts, 2:17 "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams" I think he was on meth while working there and had a paranoid hallucination (something quite common when on meth.. you see people trying to kill you, to invade and shit). The I-lyric might have shot nothing or even an innocent person. He is thunderstruck by it, by such a strength this hallucination had that it had him shooting in despair. And then (with the ironic subtle bible-referenced humour from the songwriter) he absurdly sees it as a sign from God (taking reference from the verses cited above) and it make him fear the lord again and the end of the days that is why he goes to the church and prays and prays. He is then connected to the faith again and starts to pray at his window (yep, this is a thing) constantly, maybe everyday. Humidity is the only thing in the world that can cause rust and as we know he does not live in a humid place so it must come from the breath of his murmurs due to the constant praying at the window. (he does not know that but you, reader, do). I know it's an odd interpretation and might be wrong but it is just how I saw the song since the first time I listened. |
