Seals & Crofts – East of Ginger Trees Lyrics 3 years ago
This may be the favorite of all my favorites. Transports me to that very place, east of ginger trees, in yon wilderness of clove... Whether I know what that means or not... : )

Matisyahu – Chop 'Em Down Lyrics 9 years ago
The idea of chopping trees down in the song, in my mind, has to do with the rabbinic teaching that cedars are the most "prideful" tree, therefore, the first to get cut down, as in "pride goes before a fall." The Scriptures say that God's eyes "are on the haughty (prideful) to bring them low." (2 Samuel 22:28). When we participate in "lashon hara," that is, evil speech, we are like proud trees... soon to be cut down. We do this to ourselves, hence, the irony: "From the forest itself comes the hand for the ax..." Just a thought...
