I so want to edit these lyrics. The last lines are NOT "To you're there". What does that even mean?? Those lines are "Till you're there". It can't feel like home, it can't be like home UNTIL you're there. |

You are so right! I was there too and heard the words "you're not alone" and they saved me. I grew up with Bowie and knew he was bisexual/androgynous back in the seventies when tgat was not done but that line wss his code to all of us to carry on. How right he was. He is sorely missed! |

I get the literal interpretations of this song as stated; lonliness of being on the road, wanting to be back home, etc. What I really wonder about is my love "waiting silently for me". This line is repeated numerous times so, surely it's significant. Why is she "silently" waiting? I can't help thinkig of Johnny Cash and The Green Green Grass of Home that was much more literally about accepting death after a long time away. |

For thousands of years, people believed that Earth was the centre of the universe. Then along came Gallileo, Kepler, and Copernicus who taught us that we all orbited the sun.
That's the truth, no matter what. Some folks here argue that we're here because someone, some "higher power" but, that doesn't have to be true. Science has proven that the Big Bang could be a random occurence - and could have happened multiple times according to Steven Hawking (rest his immortal memory). We could easily br living in one of an infinitude of universes.
We don't need a diefic being to justify our existence here, nor our love for one another. Organic chemistry takes care of the first and our oft-proven will to live as a species and as a form of life in general proves the second. Of course we look after each other, it's in our DNA.
As for the song, it's a beautiful reminder for us to not think of ourselves as the centre of anything. First, it was Earth, then the Sun, then the Milky Way.... Hubble has shown us that the universe goes on and on but that love and caring down here on Earth still matters, even if the moon occasionally does eclipse the sun. The bottom line is, NOTHING is the ultimate authority but that doesn't mean we should ever stop trying.l |

@[crazypinkdiamond:22805] indeed, it's referred to as a overture from operas. Asummary of what's to come. The Rock Opera "Jesus Christ, Superstar" actually opens with a "song" caled "Overture". Pink Floyd didnthe same thing here. |
