| John Denver – My Sweet Lady Lyrics | 5 years ago |

This song, written by John Denver, was featured in a 1970 TV movie called Sunshine. It was based on a true story about a young mother, Jacklyn(Lynn) Helton living in the wilderness and her fatal battle with a rare form of bone cancer. She was only 20 years old when she made the choice not to have her leg amputated which may or may not have stopped the aggressive tumour because she wanted to be a "whole" mother for her baby girl. She had been keeping a video recording of her life, but someone stole it when she was kneeling on a cupboard putting dishes away. Celebrities like John Denver heard about Lynn's plight and pitched in to help this young woman and her partner get her story out. Some of her own lyrics were used in some of Denver's songs, for example, "Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy" hence that movie's title. Lynn lost her battle with bone cancer and her ashes were scattered over the mountains she loved and this song was played at the service by Cliff DeYoung. I know all this so well because I was obsessed with this brave young woman and mother who died so young. I often wonder what happened to her partner and child. The movie is available on You Tube, at least it was last year. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do.Christina Raines played her and apparently looked a lot like the real Jacklyn Helton. |
